Why Self-Sustaining Farm Practices Are So Important

As we approach towards the end of the year, it's important to educate ourselves on different farming methods and how they impact the quality of our food.

Here at Circle C Farm, we are dedicated to providing our customers with the highest quality pasture-raised meats and poultry.

We believe that self-sustaining farm practices and responsible regenerative farming methods are important for producing the best possible results for our customers, as well as the environment and ecosystem on our farm.

What is Regenerative Farming?

Regenerative agriculture is a whole-systems approach to food production that focuses on rebuilding soil health, sequestering carbon, and restoring degraded ecosystems. The goal of regenerative agriculture is to create positive environmental change while also producing high-quality food.

There are many benefits to regenerative agriculture, including improved water retention in soils, increased resilience to drought and enhanced wildlife habitat. In addition, regenerative agriculture has been shown to sequester more carbon in soils than any other land-use practice, making it an important tool in the fight against climate change naturally.

At Circle C Farm, we use several different regenerative farming practices to produce the highest quality grass fed, grass finished and pasture-raised meats possible. These practices include rotational grazing, using our chicken manure on our pastures and composting. By using these methods, we can purify the soil and bring the soil back to its optimal level of health.  This is the part that the animals LOVE!  We are in the ‘soil and grass’ business, at least according to our livestock.

What are Self-Sustaining Farm Practices?

Self-sustaining farm practices include things like raising chickens for egg production and using their manure as fertilizer for crops and pasture land; growing cover crops and using them as animal feed; or using composted animal manure to fertilize crops. By using these responsible practices, farmers are able to produce food while also closing the loop on nutrient cycling and minimizing waste.

At Circle C Farm, we believe in being self-sustainable and always being prepared for unexpected events. For example, when the most recent hurricane hit, we were ready with a backup generator for electricity and enough drinking water and food for our family as well as our livestock on the farm.  We use solar well pumps to offset the draw of electricity, by taking advantage of our amazing FLorida sunshine.
